Sonia Gozum, NP

Board Certified Nurse Practitioner

About Sonia

Sonia Gozum began her nursing career in 1989 upon graduating from St. Paul’s College of Manila in the Manila Doctor’s hospital ICU-CCU.  In 1995, she came to AZ after working in Chicago for 3 years and gained a breadth of experience across a variety of hospitals and units in the valley (Banner Baywood, Mesa General, CVICU, ICU, CCU). She noticed early on in her career that she was passionate about cardiovascular disease and the provision of that care, prompting her to pursue her master’s degree at the University of Phoenix with Family Nurse Practitioner certification under The American Association of Nurse Practitioners in 2006.

She worked in Southeast Valley with the Cardiovascular Associates of Mesa for 10 years, an opportunity that allowed her to expand on her 20-year foundation in providing evidence-based and patient-centered care. In 2017, she felt that she wanted to expand her learning from Cardiology while still maintaining her work in its fundamental physiological focus. This endeavor brought her to American Vascular Associates in 2017 with Dr. Hammad Amer, an
opportunity that has allowed to continue learning and growing as a health professional every single day.

Her hobbies include dancing, cooking, swimming, and hiking. She loves to play with her dachshund Lady and spend time with her 24-year-old daughter Cassandra.
